Strike then Speak -to rocks?

In Exodus 17:6 God instructed Moses to “strike” a rock for the provision of water.

At another time when Israel needed water again (Numbers 20:8) God told Moses to “speak” to a rock for water.

However in a moment of his righteous indignation, Moses called Israel “rebellious,” then rebelled against God by “striking” it like he did before -rather than “speaking” to it.

I wonder if we are not often guilty of the same. When God begins a new work among us, it is easy to reject it because it is not familiar to us in the way God has moved before. Will you join me is declaring: “I will keep my heart, eyes and ears open to discern when God is doing a new thing.”
