In pondering Christmas, I could not help but think of the book of Matthew. I noticed that there is something interesting about the way he opens and closes his gospel. Consider the following:
He opens saying: 1: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
Then the book closes in chapter 28:20 saying “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”
Matthew opens his book saying that “God is with us” then he closes his book with the words “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Is seems as if Matthew wanted us to know one thing for sure; that God is with us!
What an awesome thought! It reminds me of something Paul once said “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
He is for us and with us, and like the Isley Brothers that makes me want to shout!!!
