More Prayer – More Power

Or should I begin with No Prayer, No Power!

Acts 4:23-35 NLT

As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said. When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them – you spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit through our ancestor David, your servant, saying, ‘Why were the nations so angry? Why did they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepared for battle; the rulers gathered together against the LORD and against his Messiah.’ “ In fact, this has happened here in this very city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed. But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will. And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

What did they do? They ran back to the church, and no longer looking to hide in the upper rooms, they prayed as one for boldness. So let us read on in Acts 4;

After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

We read that six things happened. I believe these same six things happen when God’s people pray in unity together before God. When we cry out for more boldness, for more courage, and when we refuse to make excuses of why it cannot be done, when we let go of fear and step out of our comfort zones and fearlessly carry the gospel out into our communities, we will see the following happen;

•            People get filled with the Holy Spirit. (v. 31)

•            The Word gets preached with boldness. (v. 31)

•            The church remains unified on mission together. (v. 32)

•            The world hears about the hope of the resurrection. (v. 33)

•            God’s blessing and favour are upon his people. (v. 33)

•            The community is changed by infectious generosity. (v. 34)

In our little church circles, we all want great things to happen, we all dream of all that God could make happen, yet with no prayer, there is no power. You want to see an increase in the power of God. You want to see the signs and wonders talked about in the bible, then pray more. Pray Holy Spirit-filled prayers, allow Him to guide our prayers to the Father and see God answer them with excellent results.

This is God’s church, and Jesus is coming back for only one church, His church, not Catholic, Church of Ireland, Baptist, Methodist, but His church. God will respond to prayer.

The kingdom of heaven is here, and this is God’s kingdom. God will always answer prayer. Action increase energy, and miracles take place when we follow God’s plan of how to get things done. We can have all the systems and procedures in place. We can have a meeting after meeting planning our strategies, yet all this planning is just would-be thinking without the power of God. 1. You are correct either way you say – No prayer, No power, or More Prayer, More Power. I don't understand why it's so hard to get people to come to prayer services. The church I serve in has 800 or more, in attendance every Sunday, yet no more than 20 at any prayer service. Thank God for the faithful few because God is answering our prayers, but how much more power would be available if we all prayed. I'm sure plenty do pray at home, but corporate prayer has dynamics that, to me, are much more powerful.

    In the meantime, I'll continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to move others to discipline themselves to participate.

  2. Yes, Jesus is coming back for one church. People lose sight of that with our man-made denominations which divide people. We shall be a people of prayer. The world sends a message that when we are on our knees, that's a sign of weakness and surrender. They have one thing correct without even knowing it. It is a sign of surrender to God, our Father. Surrender of our will, unto His. Surrender of revenge, unto forgiveness. Surrender of a stoney heart, unto a heart of love. Surrender of seeking advice of whatever wind is blowing, unto on our knees in prayer to the Master of the Universe. Without prayer, we have no communication with the Father. We shall be blown by every stray wind that passes. Prayer, after salvation through the blood of Jesus is our foundation. There is no discipeship, no growing in grace, no infillng of the Holy Spirit, no nothing. That is why we see fellow Christians and churches that are struggling and without power and being whisked away by false doctrine and culture. Lord, lead us back to prayer. Heart felt, life changing, grabbing the hem of His garment, mountain moving, earth shaking, whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven, whatever you ask for believing in faith shall see it, not our will be done but thy will be done, grandma faith…PRAYER
