REPENTANCE ~ a Seven-fold commitment

Matthew 3:2

And saying, (Repent) ye:
for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

There are (three) Greek words used in the New Testament to denote repentance – – –

1. The {verb} “metamelomai” is used of a change of mind, such as to produce regret or even remorse on account of sin, but not necessarily a change of heart. This word is used with reference to the repentance of Judas (Matthew 27:3).
2. “Metanoeo”, meaning to change one’s mind and purpose, as the result of after knowledge.
This {verb}, along with the {cognate noun},
(3) “metanoia”, is used of true repentance,
a change of mind and purpose and life,
to which remission of sin is promised.

“Evangelical repentance”
 ~ consists of four defined features:
(1) a true sense of one’s own guilt and sinfulness;
(2) an apprehension of GOD’S mercy in CHRIST;
(3) an actual hatred of sin,
Psalms 119:128; Job 42:5, 6; 2 Corinthians 7:10 and turning [from] it [to] GOD; and
(4) a persistent endeavor after a holy life in a walking with GOD in the way of HIS commandments.
That turns out to be a (7) SEVEN-FOLD commitment !
“Seven” is the number of “completeness and perfection”
(both physical and spiritual), according to GOD’S use of the number – And GOD is “BIG” on numbers!
7 is used 735 times
(54 times in the book of Revelation alone),
the number 7 is the foundation of GOD’S word.

“IF” we include with this count how many times
‘sevenfold’ (6) and ‘seventh’ (119) is used,
our total jumps to 860 references.
So, YES, I’d say that “seven-fold reference to REPENTANCE is IMPORTANT TO HIM. And if it’s important to HIM, it ought to be IMPORTANT TO US AS WELL, Eh!??

Revelation 2:5

“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

  1. I LOVE when our Teachers / Ministers chime in! This helps us ALL build and improve, not only our walk with the LORD,
    but it (also) helps us build our knowledge and ability to convey these points to others.
    The LORDS HOLY SPIRIT is such an awesome Teacher !!

  2. I think, for many, perhaps including myself, this is a hard thing to consider, but it’s absolutely worth it. We war against our flesh, and our spirit is changed from going with the flesh to contending with it. It’s difficult to war against our own flesh, but it’s necessary. I think a lot of us misunderstand this: we were once swept up in sin, choosing to revel in it, but when we are converted, our affections change, and we no longer want to do what we do. Paul himself outlined this issue well, when he said that he often found himself doing what he would not want to do, and not doing what he did want to do. He also reminds us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling, not to work to keep our salvation, but to work in it and through it, and to let it work in us. We are not perfect, but we improve every day.

  3. Repentance is not just an act of obedience To the commands of Yeshua Jesus-but it is the hunger and diligence of the heart and the directed movement of the inner Holy Spirit to to be restored, healed, transformed, and truly born-again , back to the origin of man, created in the original image of God.

    It is to be born again and to be revived back to the perfect state without sin, before the bite of the Apple, before the temptation of the devil and the Apple in the Garden of emEden, and before the separation of man and God due to sin. Before shame and consciousness of good and evil ever existed and before the awareness of sin ever existed, there was perfection. There was no death but life, there was no sickness, but purity and perfect health; there was no shame Or self-condemnation, but all praises and glory be to God.

    Repentance is not just the act of saying To those that we have offended that we are sorry, but It reveals and performs the acts of genuine, consistent, and life transforming change, Resulting in the production and the multiplication of fruits of righteousness in our lives.

    Repentance is demonstrated and recognized as once a liar, no longer a liar, once a thief, no longer a thief ; A person once filled with hatred, now transformed into love, peace, and reconciliation; It is the understanding that the true meaning of life, purpose, and direction, is not found in money, power, possessions, and self , nor is it found in anything that this present world has to offer, but only through the power, light, and blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

    Repentance is a life commitment that is natural, attainable and irrevocable and it is an act of transformation to be born again, resulting in a new mind, body and spirit ; it is a time and encounter in our lives when we see the light, a divine revelation, revealing uncovered secrets to true wisdom, understanding, conviction, and purity of heart. It is letting go of the old man, the old woman, and the old self,
