Satan and the beasts

 

The Book of Revelation 1  This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, 2who testifies to everything he saw. This is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.  3  Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and obey what is written in it, because the time is near.

 

 

1.    Satan – is the author of the untruth and un-lovein his character of “prince of this world.”

2.    The First beast (Revelation 13:12, 14-15; & Daniel 7:7)), Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads rising out of the sea. (Daniel 7:7)  There were ten royal crowns on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads.

    1. This 1st beast: is worldly power (followers after worldly things)

                                          i.    Worldly power refers to any power that is wielded over the everyday world of human affairs,  — generally ‘knowledge’ without wisdom — could be the “one world Order” ?

                                        ii.    This beast rises out of the sea — The sea is a sea (masses) ofpeoples, multitudes of peoples, nations, and tongues” (ver. 14)

    1. The ten horns and seven heads:  represent 10 nations ruled by seven kings

o   When this rises, five of the kings have fallen, one still reigns, and the other has not yet come; but when this 7th king does come, he will reign for only a little while. (Rev 17:9)

3.       Explanation of Revelation 17:3)  woman sitting on a scarlet beast

    1. carried me away in the Spirit: means in a “vision”
    2. into a wilderness: a place of desolation, amid the great worldly power (masses evil people)
    3. The woman was sitting on a scarlet beast:

                                          i.    scarlet being the emblem of lawlessness ending in violence?

                                        ii.    the beast representing worldly evil

                                       iii.    The woman represents a false religion (worldly vs Godly)

    1. dressed in purple and scarlet::

                                          i.    purple being royalty, but

                                        ii.    scarlet representing lawlessness and violence.

    1. adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls: 

                                          i.    things the ‘world’ seeks after

    1. covered with blasphemous names

                                          i.    followers apostate from (renouncing/denying) the church and Christ

    1. had seven heads and ten horns

                                          i.    kings and kingdoms

    1. golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality.

                                          i.    Precious gold: attractive to mankind,

                                        ii.    Abominations: 

1.    hands that shed innocent blood, feet that to run to evil, a fool, slacker, meddler, deceit, gossip, Burning lips, wicked heart, hatred, lying tongue, flattering mouth — acts in defiance of the Love of Christ.

                                       iii.    (golden cup) but full of sin – especially sexual immorality

                                       iv.    This woman:  represents the origin (mother) of false religion

1.    truly the seat of idolatry and tyranny (against God)..

                                         v.    She would deceive all the inhabitants of the earth within her influence – deceive them into stupid and blind submission,

1.    except the remnant of the elect (Christians).

i.        5 And on her forehead a mysterious name was written:

 

BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH

 

1.    The place of origin of the Muslim religion

2.    On her forehead a mysterious name

a.    name is not literal, but understood by all  in due time

3.    The mother of Prostitutes

a.    Mother (origin) of false religions

b.    She is mother of harlots. (prostitutes of true faith)

c.    Other false religions will follow her example; but she is the origin and type of all.

 

4.    2nd beast  (Revelation 13:15)– false religion, anti-Christ, a religion that worships worldly things (satan was prince of the world)

a.    Worldly worship

                                          i.    Jesus was crucified, dead, and buried by this worldly power, — but He rose from the dead to live and rule over Heaven. (He defeated the Beast’s (Satan’s) power over death…)

b.    2nd beast exercised all the authority of the first beast  — causing/leading people to ‘lean’ and cling on worldly things (as opposed to trusting in Christ and God’s love…)

5.    Three stages are marked out in the existence of this world power: (Revelation 17:8)

a.    first, it was;

                                          i.    The first period describes the condition of things before the sacrifice of Christ. Then it was Satan who ruled supreme in the world; that the power of the world —- the beast – was.

b.    second,  it is not” now;

                                          i.    henceforth to all true believers there is “peace,” although they may “have tribulation” in the world (John 16:33).  For the faithful Christian, the power of the world, religion ofthe beast – “is not. 

                                        ii.    Yet, though for the true servant of God, it may be said that this (worldly) power — has not existence,

c.    thirdly, it exists in the abyss, that is,  — in its natural abiding place in the world,  among the worldly (evil) minded,

                                          i.    (abysson) The abyss/pit, unfathomable depth, an especially Jewish conception, the home of the sinful dead and of evil spirits. (among the worldly minded…)

d.    All of this above is:  the opposite of God the Father Almighty, who  WAS before all things were; I AM now; and when all things have passed away, I still shall be…,”)

6.    seven heads, seven mountains, the seven hills on which Rome stands; and seven kings, seven sorts of government. (Revelation 17:7)

a.    Five were gone by when this prophecy was written;

b.    one was then in being;

c.    the other was yet to come.

                                          i.    This beast, directed by the worldly things (lusts), makes an eighth governor or king, and sets up idolatry again.

1.    This governor should not rise up till the Roman empire was broken; but should for a time be very zealous in her interest

7.    the devil, the wild beast, and the false prophet) are tormented unto the ages of ages.

a.    Like, but opposite from the Holy Trinity:  God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and The Holy Spirit

                                          i.    The devil – satan, Lucifer – the fallen Archangel  (was given everything, but wanted more…)

                                        ii.    The beast – the devouring desire of un-repentant man — no matter how much it has, it always wants more

                                       iii.    The False Prophetworshiping (and causing people to worship) worldly things — lacking love, lacking repentance, lacking honor and glory to God

8.    Revelation 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits that looked like frogs coming out of the mouths of the evil trinity.

a.    These unclean spirits (appearing like frogs) are:

                                          i.    influences of the dragon – (the devil, Prince of the world…)

                                        ii.    the first beast – (love of the things of the world), and

                                       iii.    the second beast  (worldly power, and self deceit –False Prophet)
